PERSONALITY:
ABILITIES:
There's really no way to put it in a tasteful way: Kariya's body is full to the brim with Crest Worms -- insects that channel and enhance his magical powers, at the cost of constantly eating away at his living flesh. Though they normally appear to be large grubs with a slightly phallic curve to the head, Kariya is capable of expelling these worms from his body, then forcing them to evolve into razor-winged beetles that he can then command in battle. Though individually not a lethal threat, the fearsome quality of these blade-winged worms comes in their numbers. Each the size of a rat, and with hard shells and razor jaws, these beetles move in giant swarms to overwhelm and devour any target that Kariya deems fit.
However, the stress that these worms place on Kariya's body is massive. Any attempt to use magic or control the Crest Worms will cause the capillaries in Kariya's body to rupture, resulting in profuse bleeding all across his body. The worms have long since eaten away at his internal organs, and his body can no longer handle solid foods; intravenous injections are the only way he can gain nutrition. The damage to his nerves is also extensive, resulting in stroke-like symptoms stretching across his entire left side -- he drags his left leg, walking with a significant limp, and the movements of his left arm and hand are delayed in comparison to his right. Damage to his left eye has rendered it a blind, translucent gray-blue, and the stress of the worms has paled his hair to a frail white. And while he may not have been a frightening looking man originally, the damage the worms dealt to his body has paralyzed the left side of his face and etched it with lesions and patches of half-dead flesh, rendering half of his face a gruesome mask. Not to mention, he's plagued by a constant, vicious pain throughout his body; a level of agony that often cripples him for considerable lengths of time.
All in all, Kariya is -- heavily damaged. Pinned to die within a couple months at best, he can wield a fearsome power only in exchange for his life.
